May 6 ------ Filipino weightlifter Albert delos Santos nabbed two gold medals at the IWF World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt.
Delos Santos also set a new junior world record, lifting 187 kilograms (kg) in the clean and jerk for the gold as well as in the total after accumulating 326 kg, emerging triumphant in the 71 kg division. He edged out India's Yash Khandagale, who totaled 309 kg for the silver, and Ecuador's Jimmy Lopez, who had a total of 301 kg.
It was Albert's way of honoring his late father, coach Alvin Delos Santos, who passed away recently due to liver cancer, carrying his image as he accepted the gold medal in the international competition. He is training under Julius Naranjo, husband of Philippines' first Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
