August 27 ------ Xian Lim gave a closer look into his demanding yet ultimately fulfilling journey to becoming a pilot, from grueling ground school lessons to the solitude of instrument rating training.
On Instagram, the actor and filmmaker shared a reflective post, highlighting the dedication required to navigate the skies, inspiring many to pursue their own dreams. “Ground school was tough. I didn’t know what to expect, and as the first pilot in my family, it was daunting stepping into the unknown. The deeper the lessons went, the more I asked myself why I [chose] this path or maybe… why did it choose me?” Xian wrote.
He admitted that training for his private pilot license pushed him to his limits and at times felt impossible. “But I learned to take it one day...one step at a time,” he said. “I had to push myself. Commit. Take that leap of faith. The plan was simple. Get my PPL. But after my first check ride, I knew deep down I wanted more. I wanted to keep learning, keep growing, keep flying.”
According to Xian, earning his commercial pilot license was a whole new challenge, involving endless hours of studying, numerous cross-country flights, and landings in unfamiliar aerodromes. While tough, this phase felt “right” to him. The hardest part, however, was earning his instrument rating. “Long, quiet hours. Alone with your thoughts. No celebratory water splashes.
It's just you, the instruments, and endless charts. [It's] difficult, but every step reminded me why I started this journey,” he said. Despite its difficulty, every step reinforced why he began this journey. “The road ahead is far from over and I’m here to stay. Staying inspired, staying hungry for knowledge, and chasing the dream,” he said. Xian ended his post by writing, “I hope you can chase yours too.” Xian officially became a private pilot at the beginning of the year.
