January 19 ------ Maymay Entrata is not one to be vulnerable. She often keeps things to herself because, according to her, it is how she is. With the release of her new single, “Masunog Man,” she hopes it’s a step forward in being open.
“Knowing me, hirap ako mag-open up lalo na pagdating sa personal kong buhay,” Entrata confessed to Inquirer Entertainment during a launch event for her latest single. “Siguro isa na ‘tong way to open up with what I’ve been through.”
2025 has been a rollercoaster for Entrata. It was the year she lost her mom to cancer. It was also the year she found love in Joaquin Enriquez, her partner who “never gets tired of pursuing and surprising” her. It was also the year when she decided to be active in the entertainment industry as an actress and singer.
Going through these changes at once was a lot for Entrata to take in. This is why she has been taking things day by day with the help of God’s grace. “‘Yung confidence na meron ako, hindi siya ‘yung sa’kin lang. Hindi siya ‘yung [biglaan] na lang ako nagkaroon. It’s because sa Panginoon kasi this time, gusto kong ibigay ito for His glory,” she said.
Entrata is aware that she is not fond of sharing much of her personal life in interviews. This time, she hopes “Masunog Man” is a start to the public seeing her at her most vulnerable. “Ito ang pinakaunang kanta na super personal and knowing me, hirap ako mag-open up lalo na pagdating sa personal kong buhay. Hindi ko ina-allow ‘yung self ko na interviewhin when it comes to my personal life. Siguro isa na ‘to sa way ko to open up with what I’ve been through,” she said. “Ito ‘yung opportunity para ibahagi kung ano ang mga pinagdaanan ko para [maka-relate] ang mga tao.”
When asked when the best time to be open is, she said the timing is up to the person’s discretion. “Naniniwala ako sa timing ng pag-share. Hindi mo naman kailangan i-force ang sarili mo to share your personal life kasi what if nasa era ka ng healing? Responsibilidad din natin not to force people to open up as well.”
Either way, Entrata believes that being open to the right people protects oneself from being misunderstood. She is working on it, and hopefully, she’ll be able to find the right balance at the right time. “Ang tinatry kong i-work ngayon is especially bukod sa pain and problema na pinagdaanan ko, kailangan ko siyang [i-channel] in a certain way kaysa mami-misunderstand ka. Dati, shinushut down ko ang sarili ko kapag may problema ko. Ngayon, isa sa way na para mag-heal ang sitwasyon is to be open about my pain,” she said.
