MANILA, Philippines, May 19 ------ The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to proclaim today the winning party-list organizations in the midterm polls. Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the poll body, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), intends to hold the full proclamation of the winning party-list groups and their respective nominees at 3 p.m. today at the Manila Hotel. “There will be no partial proclamation,” Garcia said.
The Comelec, however, has yet to release the list of the winning party-list groups to be proclaimed. Garcia said the NBOC will issue a resolution on the proclamation of the winning party-list groups including the number of allocated seats for each. The party-list groups with the biggest number of votes based on the National Certificates of Canvass (COC) released by the NBOC are Akbayan (2,779,621), Duterte Youth (2,338,564), Tingog (1,822,708), 4Ps (1,469,571), ACT-CIS (1,239,930), Ako Bicol (1,073,119), Uswag Ilonggo (777,754), Solid North (765,322), Trabaho (709,283), and Cibac (593,911).
Also garnering large numbers of votes are Malasakit@Bayanihan (580,100), Senior Citizen (577,753), PPP (575,762), ML (547,949), FPJ Panday Bayanihan (538,003), United Senior Citizens (533,913), 4K (521,592), LPGMA (517,833), COOP-NATCCO (509,913), and Ako Bisaya (477,796).
There are 63 seats reserved for party-list representatives, but the Comelec is looking into the position of the legal counsels of some of the groups that there should be one more. Garcia said the distribution of party-list seats would be based on a formula provided by the Supreme Court in a 2009 ruling.
