Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano named box-office heroes at 9th EDDYS

April 23 ------ Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano, Richard Gutierrez, Kim Chiu, and Paulo Avelino are set to be honored at the 9th The EDDYS (Entertainment Editors’ Choice), recognizing their contributions to some of the highest-grossing Filipino films of the past year.

Organizers announced that EDDYS will once again recognize the stars behind films that generated the biggest audiences and box-office returns last year. The Box-Office Heroes award will be presented as a special honor during the ceremony, which is set to take place in July 2026. “Pinararangalan namin ang mga bituin na ang mga pelikula ay nagdala ng mga manonood pabalik sa mga sinehan at gusto naming ipaalala sa lahat ang kasabikan sa panonood ng mga kuwentong Pilipino sa big screen,” said Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) president Tessa Mauricio-Arriola in a statement.

Leading this year’s honorees is Vice Ganda, who will receive the Phenomenal Box-Office Star award for the comedy-drama “Call Me Mother,” which earned P392 million at the box office. Maricel Soriano, on the other hand, will be recognized for the family drama “Meet, Greet, & Bye,” which grossed P260 million.

Screen partners Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino will likewise be honored for their romantic comedy “My Love Will Make You Disappear,” which earned P173 million. Richard Gutierrez, meanwhile, will be recognized for headlining the horror film “Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins,” which grossed P140 million and extended the long-running franchise.

The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) is composed of entertainment editors from national broadsheets, tabloids, and online media platforms in the country. Through The EDDYS, the group aims to encourage Filipino filmmakers, producers, writers, actors, and other industry stakeholders to continue creating films that reflect social realities.
