Vice Ganda, 'Call Me Mother' win big in 51st MMFF Gabi ng Parangal

MANILA, December 29 ------ Vice Ganda and her movie "Call Me Mother" nabbed major honors in the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal. Vice was named Best Actor for her outstanding performance in the box office hit movie.


In her acceptance speech, Vice Ganda said she didn't prepare anything because she wasn't expecting to win. "Mas inexpect kong hindi mananalo, mas inexpect kong hindi nakikita, mas inexpect ko yung nagugustuhan pero hindi pinipili, o mas nasasanay ako doon sa napipili pero hindi maaari. But tonight, maaari na," Vice said. "Call Me Mother" child actor Lucas Andalio, meanwhile, took home the Best Child Actor award.


The Jun Lana film also won the Gender Sensitivity Award and was named Third Best Picture. Another historic moment was for the movie "I'mperfect", which took home the Best Picture award and the Best Actress award for the actor with Down syndrome, Krystel Go. "We made history tonight," said Sylvia Sanchez, producer of the film. The whole cast was also recognized as Best Ensemble.


Veteran actress and movie icon Odette Khan won Best Supporting Actress for "Barboys: After School", which was also given the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award. "Unmarry" took home seven awards, including Second Best Picture, Best Director for Jeffrey Jeturian, Best Supporting Actor for Tom Rodriguez, Best Screenplay for Chris Martinez, Best Float, Best Editing for Benjo Ferrer, and Breakthrough Performance Award for teen actor Zack Sibug. "Shake Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins" received the award for Best in Visual Effects. Some special awards were also handed out, including the Male and Female Stars of the night, which were given to the stars of "Love you so bad" - Bianca de Vera, Will Ashley, and Dustin Yu.
