March 10 ------ The unemployment rate in the first month of the year climbed to 4.5 percent from 3.1 percent in December, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.
In January, the number of unemployed Filipinos was estimated at 2.15 million, which is over 550,000 higher than the 1.6 million recorded in the previous month. Despite the increase, the January 2024 unemployment rate is lower compared to the 4.8 percent recorded in the same month last year.
