MANILA, October 24 ------ Around 1.35 million passengers are expected to travel via the country's main gateway NAIA this Undas season, the airport operators said.
The Department of Transportation and the New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) led a joint inspection of NAIA Terminal 3, showcasing new developments that will "improve customer experience." There are new check-in kiosks, innovative self bag-drop counters, and a new food hub that officials likened to airports of other countries.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said they are now prepared for the influx of passengers as All-Saints' Day nears. "Meron na tayo Oplan Undas at naka-ready na LTO, LTFRB, lahat ng Coast Guard, expressways kasama ang toll operators and concessionaires, handang handa na kami. Routine naman every year naman nangyayari," he said.
The terminal is now using more self-check in kiosks where passengers can print boarding passes and bag tags directly. "Ang investment natin dito 517 na kiosks across all terminals, sa Pilipinas lang kasi yung 4 to 6 hours before the flight, nandyan na passengers. With this investment, kahit wala pa o sarado pa checkin counters, makakapag check-in na sila," said NNIC General Manager Lito Alvarez.
They also boasted about the significant improvements in punctuality of flights. "On time na ang performance ng NAIA, lumalampas na ng 85 percent. May days pa nga 90 percent, napakalaking bagay niyan, yan ay lampas sa global standard na 85 percent, nakakatulong yon, kapag delayed flight kasi nag-aagawan sa silya," Alvarez added.
The DOTR also said that NNIC has remitted P57 billion to the national government after just one year of privatized operations. This is in stark contrast to the P32 billion remitted by MIAA from 1996 to 2024.
