Ukraine's Zelensky visiting eastern frontline

KYIV, Ukraine, October 4 ------ President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was visiting frontline areas in eastern Ukraine where Russian forces have been pressuring Kyiv's troops. "Today we are visiting our brigades performing combat missions in one of the hottest areas -- Kupiansk-Lyman," Zelensky said in a statement on social media.

Zelensky said he "discussed the operational situation on the battlefield, current issues and needs with commanders of brigades and battalions."

In June, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive against Russian positions in the south but Russia responded by trying to take back territory in the northeast. Kupiansk and the surrounding areas of the northeastern region of Kharkiv were recaptured by Kyiv's forces in September. Moscow has since pushed back into the region, forcing Ukraine to order civilian evacuations.
