Ukraine energy sector to get £65m boost from German bank

October 16 ------ Ukraine's national grid operator says it will receive a £65m grant from Germany's KfW bank. The grant will allow Ukraine to strengthen defences of the grid over winter and to increase the reliability of electricity supplies.

Russia has consistently targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure since the start of the war, and that is expected to continue for as long as the conflict lasts.

Ukrenergo said it would use the funding for developing its "engineering defense" of energy facilities and modernization of networks "on the border with Europe". "The funding will support Ukraine's ability to successfully get through this and subsequent winter seasons by facilitating the rapid restoration and creation of protective constructions."
