UAE condemns attack on ADNOC vessel in Strait of Hormuz

August 11 ------ The United Arab Emirates condemned an alleged Iranian missile attack on a vessel linked to ADNOC while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Iran of “acts of piracy.”

According to Reuters, the UAE state news agency WAM initially reported that ADNOC said one of its vessels had been targeted by a missile early on August 8. The situation was brought under control, with no injuries reported. No details were provided on the vessel, its cargo or any damage.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said the attack violated a UN Security Council resolution on freedom of navigation and called on Iran to halt attacks on commercial shipping and fully and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz. ADNOC said on August 7 that 15 of its vessels had been attacked by missiles and drones while transiting the strait since the conflict began on February 28.

Three attacks occurred during the week, killing one crew member and injuring 20 others. The company did not identify those responsible. Before the conflict, about one-fifth of global oil and LNG supplies passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Repeated attacks and disruptions since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran have raised shipping costs and increased security concerns.
