Total COVID-19 cases near 400,000 mark; daily increases declining

November 11 ------ The total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines is now close to 400,0000 — nine months since the country detected its first case. Based on the latest case update of the Department of Health (DOH), there were 1,347 new people who caught the disease, bringing the overall tally to 399,749. Of the total figure, only 30,169 are active cases, of which, 83 percent are experiencing mild symptoms, 9.4 percent are asymptomatic, 2.7 percent are in severe condition, and 4.8 percent are critical.
There were also 187 new patients who have gotten better, while 14 more individuals have died, raising the total number of recoveries and deaths to 361,919 and 7,661, respectively. Cavite had the highest number of newly confirmed cases with 92, followed by the City of Manila, 77; Quezon City, 58; Baguio City, 55; and Laguna, 52. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the country’s daily cases are still on a “downward trend.”
“Itong mga nakaraang panahon, nakita natin ang patuloy na pagbaba ng daily number of cases at we attribute this to our continuing efforts and localized responses at the barangay level,” said Duque in a press briefing on Monday, November 9. To note, the last time that the daily number of cases reached 3,000 was last October 16. Since October 17 up to present, the country’s daily number of infections ranged between 1,000 to 2,000.
With this gain, Duque still reiterated to the public to continuously comply with the minimum public health standards, such as wearing a face mask and face shield, observing physical distancing, frequent handwashing, among others. “This downward trend is certainly a welcome development. Hopefully, maging patuloy na ito pero ika nga, pwede pa rin tumaas ang kaso natin kung hindi tayo mag-iingat” the Health chief said. “Huwag natin sayangin ang ating nakamit na mga tagumpay. Huwag po tayong maging complacent. Let us not allow our guards down,” he added.
