November 5 ------ The reported fatalities due to the impact of Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) has increased to 52, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said 50 of the total deaths were reported in Central Visayas, while two were in Western Visayas. The reported death toll is still subject for validation, according to the NDRRMC. “May natabunan po. May nahulugan po ng hard objects. At marami po ang nalunod,” Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region VII Regional Director Joel Erestain told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview. “Ang na-evacuate kasi is 'yung mga low-lying areas. Hindi natin akalain 'yung flash floods medyo mataas-taas talaga. Doon po marami pong natangay,” he added.
According to Erestain, 48 people were reported dead in Cebu Province and one in Bohol. Also, 13 people were reported missing, and 10 others were reported injured, according to the NDRRMC. A total of 706,549 people or 203,595 families were affected by the typhoon in Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Negros Island, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, and Caraga. Of the affected population, 348,554 people or 101,981 families were staying in evacuation centers, while 27,698 people or 88,357 families were taking shelter in other places.
The NDRRMC said 16 houses were damaged—10 partially and six in total. Fifteen of the 21 affected road sections remained impassable, while all of the five affected bridges are now passable. A total of 154 seaports became non-operational, leaving 3,996 passengers; 1,347 rolling cargoes, 117 vessels, and four motorbancas stranded.
Power interruptions were still experienced in 50 of the 61 affected areas. Communication line issues have been restored in seven affected areas. Classes in 593 areas and work schedules in 406 areas were suspended due to the typhoon. A state of calamity was declared in the entire province of Cebu.
