The Democrats’ ‘blue tsunami’ is a strong repudiation of Donald Trump

November 5 ------ American voters have inflicted a generational defeat on the Republican Party in the midterm elections, with Democrats winning control of both houses of Congress: the House of Representatives and Senate.
Donald Trump’s party has been defeated in states where it hadn’t lost for a generation — or longer: Texas, South Carolina and Kansas. These have been red states for quite some time, but this shows the Republicans are really suffering in their own heartland.
While Democrats were widely predicted to take the House and had a reasonable chance to win the Senate, no one could have predicted at the beginning of 2026 such a huge “blue wave” washing over the US by November.
In fact, Republicans barely held on in Senate races in Louisiana and Florida — states that have long been firmly red — and the race in Mississippi will go down to the wire. And Democrats held on everywhere that was contested: in most cases, it wasn’t even close.
