Christmas Day has come and gone and the hustle and bustle are laid to rest. Every Filipino Christmas family is now focused on their own hopes dreams and aspirations for themselves, and more so for the nation.
As we all contemplate on Christmas, here’s a couple of things we can all think about as we reflect on the year about to end and the year to come.
What is the Christmas spirit? It is that generosity we experience, big or small, that makes us feel so special, whether we are the givers or receivers. It is that sense of gratitude every time we recall how much we have and how much we tend to forget the many things that God continues to provide for us, even when we are too busy to remember. And when we do, it is that silent thank you that helps us appreciate life all around.
The Christmas spirit is about hope and how much we can be rest assured that it does not disappoint, even when we undergo very dark days. It is that sense of possibility and a fresh start that only the divine can give us.
The Christmas spirit is the connections we make with those we love and those who cross our paths even in the midst of chaos – the ones that change our lives in the most profound ways. It is also the joy of belonging in a community that continues to support all our efforts and our dreams.
But the spirit of Christmas is something we can celebrate everyday, even in the very small ways that people tend to ignore. It’s the little gestures we make for others that put a smile on their faces, the kind word that lifts their spirits and the time we give to someone who really needed a shoulder to cry on.
Everyone has been busy with last minute plans for the season yet, in the middle of it all, let us not forget that there are little things out there that give us a feeling of joy. It can be hearing our favorite Christmas carol or bumping into an old friend.
The Christmas spirit is more than decorations or gifts – it is the way we live, with kindness and compassion, especially for those who need it most.
May your season be bright and may all your connections be deep this holiday season and always remember that the reason we love is because there in a manager was born a child who loved us first. Blessed Christmas to one and all!
