ISTANBUL, August 18 ------ Thailand and Cambodia reaffirmed their commitment to peace along the border after last month’s clashes left dozens dead and injured.

At the Extraordinary Regional Border Committee meeting, Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi–Trat Border Defense Command agreed to improve communication, reduce tensions, and form a coordinating group in the disputed area, Cambodia’s Office of the Council of Ministers said in a statement.

The meeting, held in Thailand, also addressed humanitarian demining and cross-border online scams. On July 28, during a trilateral meeting with Malaysia’s prime minister, the two neighbors agreed to an unconditional ceasefire following weeks of hostilities. Both sides later endorsed a 13-point agreement on Aug. 7, which included allowing ASEAN observers to monitor the ceasefire along the contested border.
