MANILA, August 21 ------ Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala is set to return to action, this time in the main draw of the US Open.

Eala has dropped to No. 70 in the WTA rankings, but she is eager to make history anew for the Philippines after falling down over 10 spots from her previous career-best of No.56.

The 20-year-old star from Quezon City is coming off a shoulder injury during her National Bank Open campaign in Canada. Aside from the setback, she also absorbed a loss to Marketa Vondrousova, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, when she opened her campaign. Eala’s shoulder injury eventually resulted in her missing the Cincinnati tournament and the Abierto GNP Seguros in Mexico. Fortunately, she then resumed training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain a week ago.

Eala, who is still in search of her first singles win in a Grand Slam’s main draw, is expected to return to the court and make her US Open debut starting August 24 as the tournament is currently still in its qualifying stages.
