MANILA, July 1 ------ Several areas in Luzon are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as the low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) developed into a tropical depression (TD) and was named Henry, the weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said areas under TCWS No. 1 are the southwestern portion of Zambales (San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic, Olongapo City), the western portion of Bataan (Morong, Bagac, Mariveles), and Lubang Islands.
Henry is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km. per hour near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph. It was located 115 km. west southwest of Abucay, Bataan as of 4 a.m., moving northwest at 25 kph. Strong winds will prevail in areas under TCWS No. 1.
Henry's periphery and the southwest monsoon (habagat) will bring strong to gale-force gusts across Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan. Moderate seas may prevail over these coastal waters: seaboards of Cagayan and Isabela; the western seaboards of Zambales, Bataan, Lubang Islands; seaboards of Aurora and Batanes; the northern seaboard of Ilocos Norte; the western seaboards of La Union, Pangasinan, and Palawan.
PAGASA advised mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels to take precautionary measures while venturing to the sea. Meanwhile, Henry is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm and exit PAR on Thursday, PAGASA said.
