Tanghalang Pilipino sweeps major plums at 15th Gawad Buhay Awards

July 31 ------ Tanghalang Pilipino’s “Pingkian: Isang Musikal” and “Balete” are the biggest winners of the 15th Gawad Buhay Awards after sweeping awards from major categories, including Outstanding Translation or Adaptation and Outstanding Book of a Musical, to name a few. Held on Wednesday, July 30, at the Aliw Theater, the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ theater company brought home 17 awards.

Nonie Buencamino and Nicole Omillo won the Outstanding Lead Performance for a Musical plum, while Vic Robinson and Sheila Francisco bagged the Outstanding Lead Performance for a Play awards.

Organized by the Philippine Legitimate Stage Artists Group (Philstage), the Gawad Buhay awards are open to theater production companies that are members of the organization. These include 9 Works Theatrical, The Sandbox Collective, The Necessary Theatre, Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, Ballet Manila, Barefoot Theatre Collaborative, Culturtain Musicat Productions, Full House Theater Company, Philippine Educational Theater Association, Philippine Opera Company, Repertory Philippines, Stages, Theater Titas, Tanghalang Pilipino, Trumpets, and Twin Bill Theater.
