MANILA, September 23 ------ Super Typhoon Nando continues to weaken as it is about to exit the Philippine area of responsibility Tuesday. As of 4 a.m., Nando was located 265 km west of Calayan, Cagayan. Packing winds of 185 kph and gusts up to 230 kph, Nando continues to move westward at 20 kph.

Wind signal no. 3 is still up in Ilocos Norte, western Apayao, northwestern mainland Cagayan, and western Babuyan Islands. Wind warnings will be lifted as Nando continues to move farther away from the country. Nando’s trough or extension and the enhanced southwest monsoon may still bring gusts and moderate to heavy rains over the western section of Luzon through Wednesday.

Up to intense rainfall may be experienced in Ilocos and western Cordillera this Tuesday. The threats of flooding and landslides remain. Meanwhile, the low-pressure area to the east of the country may enter the PAR today and develop into a tropical cyclone, which will be locally named #OpongPH. At 3 a.m. Tuesday, it was more than 1,200 km east of Eastern Visayas.
