June 3 ------ After a jaw-dropping finale performance, Sugar Mercado and HORI7ON’s Jeromy Batac were named the champions of “Stars on the Floor” season two, besting four other pairs in the competition.
Mercado and Batac were declared champions on the show’s finale episode on Sunday, May 31, after they raised the audience’s hearts with their “projectory performance,” which earned a cumulative percentage of 20.21% based on the judges’ and online votes from the show’s 10th to 16th episode. Their final performance, hosted by Alden Richards, featured a series of graceful and acrobatic moves while perched on a massive, seesaw-like contraption, jumping from one end to the other.
Other duos who competed for the title were Chanty Videla and Alamat’s Jao (second place with an 20.19% overall percentage), Rocco Nacino and KAIA’s Sophia, Paul Salas and Calista’s Denise, and Jasmine Curtis-Smith and 1ST ONE’s Joker. Throughout the competition, the P-pop stars and celebrity dancers were randomly paired until the final duos were selected for the 10th episode onwards.
Speaking about their experiences while doing “Stars on the Floor” season two, KAIA’s Sophia said that while she and her fellow idols were shy upon meeting the Kapuso stars, it was their day-to-day work that allowed them to fully immerse themselves in the show without issue.
“I think it’s a different environment with this show. But ‘yung haba ng training namin, it’s very rigorous, it’s not just dancing and singing specifically. It’s how you present yourself and how you bring yourself out to the public. Overall, ang training namin, nakatulong talaga dito. I think it was a big advantage,” she said.
