July 20 ------ Sue Ramirez and Khalil Ramos joined forces in a film about second chances in the world of OPM called “One Hit Wonder,” set to be released on August 21. Set in the 1990s, the film tells the story of Lorina Dominguez (Ramirez), a down-on-her-luck singer who lost a singing contest in 1984, and is now working as a personal assistant to her cousin (Vivoree Esclito) in the present.

Lorina then meets Entoy (Khalil Ramos), a songwriter and vocalist, who encourages her to go for another shot at stardom by joining the latter’s band. “A girl who missed a chance at instant fame meets a boy who insists they still deserve another shot, will they catch a break, or will they end up breaking each other’s hearts?” the film’s synopsis read. Ramirez, Ramos, and Esclito will be joined by Gladys Reyes and Romnick Sarmenta in the Marla Ancheta-helmed film, although details of the veteran actors’ roles are yet to be revealed.

“One Hit Wonder” was first teased by the streaming platform in January 2025 as part of its upcoming local films to be released in the year. The upcoming film marks Ramirez’s fourth movie project of the year after “In Between,” “Lasting Moments,” and “Flower Girl.” She was also part of the sitcom “Jack and Jill sa Diamond Hills” which lasted from 2023 to 2024. Meanwhile, Ramos was among the leads of the jukebox musical “Liwanag sa Dilim” earlier this year. He was also part of the film “Olsen’s Day” and the digital series “How To Cheat Death,” which was released within the year.
