Sue Ramirez: Her remarkable evolution as a teleserye star through the years

June 16 ------ Sue made her acting debut via the 2011 remake of the classic 1990s soap opera “Mula Sa Puso,” where she showcased her promising dramatic chops as Nicole Matias, a role originally played by former actress Anna Larrucea. She later joined the cast of the well-loved afternoon drama “Angelito: Batang Ama” as Rona Dimaano, a role she reprised in its sequel, “Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto.”
Her growing versatility became evident when she got cast in the horror-fantasy series “Oka2kat” in 2012, the sequel to the iconic 1997 television series “! Oka Tokat!.” That same year, she made her debut in the long-running drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya” through the “Baunan” episode, portraying Rachel, an adopted daughter who rebelled against her adoptive parents after discovering the truth about her identity.
The following year, Sue appeared in the family drama “Annaliza,” a modern adaptation of the classic 1980s soap opera of the same title. She played Lui Celerez, younger sister of lead antagonist Stella, portrayed by Kaye Abad.
In 2014, she starred in the “Panyo” episode of MMK as Susan, a young woman whose ties with her best friend got strained when the latter’s ex-boyfriend courted her. She then made her debut in the legal drama anthology “Ipaglaban Mo” through the “Ang Totoong Ako” episode and appeared briefly in the series “Dream Dad.”
Five years into her career, Sue went on to have a busy year in 2015. She made a special appearance in “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita” as the younger version of Cecilia Macaraig, a character portrayed by Vina Morales. She also played Kristel in “All of Me,” a young woman who harbored feelings for lead character Edong, portrayed by JM de Guzman. She went on to become a key part of the remake of the iconic romance drama “Pangako Sa ‘Yo,” where she portrayed Ligaya, the woman who came between the love story of Yna (Kathryn Bernardo) and Angelo (Daniel Padilla). She also appeared in the “Entablado” and “Eyeglasses” episodes of MMK, the “Pagkakasala ng Ama” episode of “Ipaglaban Mo,” and in the “Remote ni Eric” narrative of “Wansapanataym.”
In 2016, Sue continued to build on her momentum with standout appearances in “Ipaglaban Mo” via the “Kidnap” episode and in MMK via the “Paru-paro” episode. She once again took on the role of a romantic rival in the hit series “Dolce Amore,” where her character Angela was the third party in the love story of Serena (Liza Soberano) and Tenten (Enrique Gil).
After portraying the young Margaret Divinagracia, the character played by Connie Reyes in “My Dear Heart,” Sue revealed a completely different side of her in the 2017 fantasy-action series “La Luna Sangre,” where she transformed into the fierce she-wolf Catleya. A major milestone also came that year when she finally secured her first lead protagonist role in a teleserye through “Hanggang Saan,” portraying Anna Michelle Lamoste, the love interest of lead character Paco Alipio (Arjo Atayde).
She delivered another powerful performance in the “Ipaglaban Mo” episode “Sakal” broadcast in 2018, where she portrayed a battered and sexually abused wife. She also landed a role in the long-running Kapamilya teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and became part of its history as the vivacious Marie Espinosa.
Not even the challenges brought about by the pandemic could slow Sue down. In 2020, she starred in the action-drama series “A Soldier’s Heart,” earning praise for her portrayal of the strong-willed and courageous Captain Lourdes Bacalso.
Two years later, she captivated viewers with her daring and unforgettable portrayal of the fierce mistress Lexy Lucero in “The Broken Marriage Vow,” the Philippine adaptation of the hit British series “Doctor Foster.” Later in 2022, she became the leading lady of Richard Gutierrez in the action-drama series “The Iron Heart,” portraying Venus Magbanua, the love interest and partner-in-crime of his character, Apollo Adelantar.
And in 2025, she impressed us anew with her performance in the crime-drama series “What Lies Beneath” as one of the four female characters who were haunted by their shared dark past. She played Mel Barrera-Montenegro, a famous celebrity stylist whose life is constantly tormented by scandals, controlling relationships, traumatic pasts, and dark secrets.
