MANILA, Philippines, July 17 ------ Another game, another win for Strong Group Athletics-Philippines. Strong Group kept its unbeaten run going in the 2025 William Jones Cup after rolling past Australia United, 91-75, at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in Taiwan.
Import Andre Roberson once again spearheaded the Filipinos’ attack, posting his usual all-around numbers of 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists. Roberson also got plenty of help as Tajuan Agee (12 points), Ian Miller (12 points), Ange Kouame (11 points), and Dave Ildefonso (10 points) all reached the double-digit scoring mark for the back-to-back seeking Strong Group. “This was our best offensive game of the tournament,” said Strong Group tactician Charles Tiu after the team scored its tournament-high 91 points. “Guys played well — another game where multiple guys in double-digits. Balanced scoring for us, which is what our team is about, getting everybody involved. Four games down, four to go,” he continued.
After taking part in Jordan Brand’s “Board of Greatness” event in Athens, Greece last weekend, Kiefer Ravena made his debut for the Philippine-based squad. He finished with 9 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and 1 assist. “Glad to have Kiefer back who is really my extension on the court,” said Tiu. “One of the smartest guys I’ve coached definitely, makes things easier.” he added.
Mac Stodart dropped a game-high 19 points, while former UP Fighting Maroons guard James Spencer posted 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for Australia in the losing effort. Now at 4-0, Strong Group aims to keep its record spotless when it collides with Chinese Taipei-A on Thursday, July 17, at 5 pm. Bahrain currently leads the nine-team field with a 5-0 slate. The team with the best record at the end of the single round-robin tournament which will run until Sunday, July 20, wins the title.
