Sotto’s awaited NBL debut faces delay

MANILA, Philippines, October 10 ------ Kai Sotto’s much-awaited debut with the Adelaide 36ers may be pushed back to a later date pending the decision of the Australia National Basketball League (NBL) on its original Nov. 18 opener. NBL commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said the league is exploring options and discussions in an attempt to accommodate fans and sustain the home-and-away format amid the pandemic.

That, however, would depend on the COVID-19 cases in the country and the travel situations being monitored by the league a month before the original start date. “We’re still scheduled officially to start on Nov. 18. (But) given that we’ve always said our priority is our fans and allowing them to attend as many games in their home city as possible, it would be derelict of us not to continue to monitor and consider current circumstances of whether or not to push that date back a little further,” Loeliger told ESPN’s Ball and the Real World podcast. The NBL is looking at this month to decide on the opening date although it has ruled out a possible delay until early next year with the safety of everyone remaining as the top priority.
