When you rent a home, the house itself is important, but your neighbors can also have a big impact on your living experience.
Being a good neighbor helps make your community friendly and safe. Here are six simple tips to help you get along with the people who live around you.
Communicate
Talk with your neighbors from the start. Introduce yourself when you move in and say hello when you see them. Share important information like building issues or when you’ll be away. Good communication builds trust and may even lead to new friendships.
Be Social
Try to be friendly and open. You could organize a neighborhood potluck or picnic to help neighbors get to know each other and create a sense of community.
Watch Out for Each Other
Keep an eye on your neighbors’ homes as well as your own. If you notice anything wrong, help out or let them know. Being caring makes your neighborhood safer for everyone.
Be Respectful
Respect your neighbors’ space and time. Avoid loud parties late at night and warn neighbors if you have guests coming over. Keep shared spaces clean and don’t do anything that might bother others.
Do Favors
Helping neighbors occasionally shows you care and can encourage them to return the favor.
Train Your Pets
Make sure your pets are well-behaved. Keep them quiet and clean up after them so everyone enjoys the neighborhood.
