MANILA, Philippines, June 3 ------ Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is scheduled to meet with President Marcos tomorrow to discuss the cooperation areas between their countries and key regional issues, Malacañang has announced. The meeting will form part of Wong’s two-day official visit to the country from June 4 to 5 upon Marcos’ invitation, the Palace said.
The Philippines will be the Singaporean leader’s first bilateral visit after his reappointment in May. It will also mark Wong’s introductory visit to the Philippines. “President Marcos and Prime Minister Wong are scheduled to have a bilateral meeting on June 4, when the two leaders are expected to discuss the growing bilateral ties between the Philippines and Singapore in the key areas of health, climate change mitigation and civil service cooperation, among others,” the Presidential Communications Office said in a statement. “The leaders will also exchange views on political and economic issues of significance to the region,” it added.
The last time a Singaporean prime minister visited the country was in 2017. The Philippines’ eighth largest trading partner last year, Singapore is home to about 220,000 Filipinos.
