February 27 ------ Singer Sheryn Regis may be cancer-free for four years now but she still turns solemn when talking about her battle with thyroid cancer that began in 2016. In a recent episode of “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” the 40-year-old artist said it reached the point when she was already resigned to not being able to sing after she undergoes surgery.
“Kasi nga ang surgery for sure ma-affect ‘yung voice ko after. Nakita ko ‘yung isang patient nga what happened is wala siyang boses, tinanong ko siya after six months and wala pa rin siyang boses,” she said. She thanked a doctor from Cebu who did the surgery. “Pinatugtog nila ‘yung (hit version ko nang) ‘Come In Out Of The Rain’ while nag-surgery sa akin para daw makonsensiya sila na ‘wag matamaan ‘yung laryngeal nerve ko,” Sheryn recalled.
Though she was advised to not use her singing voice for six months, Sheryn admitted she did not strictly followed doctor’s order as music has been a passion all her life. Less than a month after surgery, she sang at an event for Santo Niño de Cebú. “I told myself, it’s because of my faith kaya kakanta ako at gagaling ako,” she related. “And now I am cancer-free pero may check up pa rin all the time because I need to be careful.”
