December 11 ------ Fans of the SexBomb Girls — or those who refer themselves as “pinalaki ng SexBomb” — had the time of their lives on the second night of the girl group’s reunion concert, which included a surprise performance from Mayonnaise’s Monty Macalino and heartfelt recollection, among other highlights.

Dubbed as “Get, Get, Aw!: The SexBomb Concert rAWnd 2,” the second night of the group’s concert was held at the Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 9, which was attended by fans despite it being held on a weekday. The first night of the show was held last Dec. 4 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The 50-song setlist included SexBomb’s biggest hits such as “Bakit Papa,” “Pretty Little Baby,” “Halukay Ube,” and “The Spaghetti Song.” The concert also included solo performances by Rochelle Pangilinan and Jopay Paguia, as well as a rerun of the girl group’s dance battle with EB Babes and songs from “Daisy Siete,” to name a few.

Jopay and Mayonnaise

One of the highlights of the concert was a surprise performance by Macalino — singer of the smash hit “Jopay,” which is inspired by the SexBomb member herself — which sent the audience into cheers. Of course, his muse appeared onstage for the special performance.

Released in 2004, the song was written by Macalino after seeing Paguia cry in a Lenten episode on TV. “Pagbukas ko ng TV nakita ko ‘yung isang SexBomb dancer [Jopay], umiiyak. Sabi ko, ‘Ba’t kaya umiiyak ‘to ‘di ba nasayaw lang ‘to?’ So pumasok sa utak ko parang ‘ayaw ko siya makitang umiyak,” he recalled in an OG Channel interview. “So ginawa ko talaga ‘yung kanta specifically for Jopay ng Sexbomb dancers… I wanted to create a song that would make as if we have a connection. Even if she doesn’t know me. Even if I haven’t seen her face-to-face,” he continued. “Good things come to those who wait. Never get high with the highs and low with the lows, and celebrate moments like this. Thank you and congratulations @jopaypaguiazamora & the Sexbomb Girls,” he wrote.

Hunt for producers

The concert headed toward an emotional route after a video documenting its preparations was shown to the audience. According to Pangilinan, she approached a lot of producers to make the reunion concert work, but to no avail. This is why she and her bandmates took it upon themselves to pull it off. “Ang dami kong nilapitan na producers para mag-produce nito, walang may gustong mag-produce,” she said. This explains why the girl group became emotional after the show, with Pangilinan telling the audience that their fans are the “reason why their reunion was kept alive.”
