May 23 ----- Data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, May 22, showed that twenty-eight monitoring stations across the country recorded heat indices that were considered "dangerous."
Aparri, Cagayan, and Infanta, Quezon had the highest daily heat indices on Monday, both at 46°C.
PAGASA defines the heat index as the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. The weather bureau pointed out that a heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C indicates impending “danger,” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.”
The monitoring stations that recorded “dangerous” heat indices on Monday were:

• Catarman, Northern Samar (45°C)

• Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (44°C)
• Calayan, Cagayan (43°C)
• Casiguran, Aurora (43°C)
• Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C)
• Iba, Zambales (43°C)
• San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (43°C)
• Catbalogan, Western Samar (42°C)
• Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija (42°C)
• Daet, Camarines Norte (42°C)
• Dauis, Bohol (42°C)
• Guiuan, Eastern Samar (42°C)
• Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (42°C)
• Itbayat, Batanes (42°C)
• Juban, Sorsogon (42°C)

PAGASA recorded the highest heat index in the country so far this year on May 12 in Legazpi City, Albay at 50°C.
