Senior citizens to get 40 percent fare discount beginning April 15

MANILA, Philippines, April 13 ------ Senior Citizens Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes reminded senior citizens that they can enjoy 40 percent discount on subsidized public utility vehicles (PUV) starting Wednesday, April 15.

An additional 20 percent cut will be added to the mandatory 20 percent discount provided by law. "The added discount is one of the conditions of the DOTr net service contracting program, which covers 823 routes," Ordanes said in a statement, referring to the Department of Transportation.

The initiative covers traditional and modern jeepneys, UV Express vans, city buses, and EDSA Carousel buses. "This net service contracting is a big help to drivers and operators, including many senior citizens who are drivers," Ordanes said. "I commend the DOTr for the design of the net service contracting program.”
