MANILA, June 6 ------ The Senate honored icons in the entertainment industry in its session. In his sponsorship speech of Senate Resolution 1320, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada commended Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo for winning the Best Actress award from the Fantasporto International Filim Festival.

“Her Best Actress win in Fantasporto, her second international best actress trophy following the recognition from Cairo Film Festival in 2019 for the movie ‘Mindanao’, proves her range and versatility as an actress who can not only make audiences cry buckets for her dramatic portrayals as a true royalty of Pinoy Soap Opera or hold her own as a female lead in action sequences, including our very own tandem, but can also send chills and suspense in horror blockbusters,” Estrada said. “I am one with the Filipino nation in congratulating Judy Ann in her latest success and for bringing our country pride and honor and for putting the spotlight on the remarkable caliber of Filipino artists and creative workers before the international stage,” he continued.

Estrada also honored the legacy of late icons, namely, Superstar Nora Aunor, actresses Gloria Romero and Pilita Corrales, and actor Ricky Davao. “Though their voices are now still, their art will continue to resonate for generations to come. Their legacy lives on in the hearts of those that they touched, the countless stories they told, and the dreams they inspired. Their talents were not just admired; they were already woven into the very fabric of our national identity,” Estrada said.

Senators Grace Poe, Bong Go, and Joel Villanueva also manifested their gratitude and admiration. Santos-Agoncillo and her husband, Ryan Agoncillo, were present at the session hall, as well as relatives of Aunor, Romero, Corrales, and Davao.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives adopted on Wednesday separate House Resolutions expressing sincere condolences on the passing of music legend Freddie Aguilar and OPM veteran Hajji Alejandro. The lower chamber also honored and commended Davao, through a resolution, for his outstanding contributions to Filipino cinema and theater. The House adopted resolutions expressing profound condolences on the death of Corrales and Aunor.
