March 5 ------ “VISA” — SB19’s latest single — reached another milestone as it entered the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 6, weeks after its release. P-pop powerhouse’s newest single entered the sixth spot on the World Digital Song Sales chart dated March 7, making them the Filipino artist with the most singles that entered the Billboard-owned chart.
Other songs that entered the chart are “Gento,” “DAM,” “DUNGKA!”, “Burn the Flame” and “Umaaligid,” the latter a collaboration between the quintet and Sarah Geronimo. The quintet took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank their dedicated fans (or A’TIN) for the milestone.
“Uy, approved! ‘VISA’ officially makes it to the #6 spot of the Billboard World Digital Song Sales, and we couldn’t have done this without our A’TIN!” they said. “A massive thanks to every single one of you who pre-saved, streamed, and used our music in your videos. This achievement is ours to celebrate together with all our fans around the globe. Salamat po,” they continued.
According to SB19, the single is a social commentary on Filipinos struggling to access opportunities in different parts of the world, an example of which is them and their team getting “affected” by visa applications during their world tour. “SB19 has been active for seven years, and we hope that songs like these can reach officials and encourage laws that make it easier for athletes, artists, and others working overseas to access visas,” Pablo said in a press statement.
“This could include creative acts, producing content, or receiving rebates for spending related to the arts. This is not just an attempt to produce music, but to push Filipino culture forward. There is little support from the government, so it is important that our work can make an impact not only personally but also on a national level,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Stell said the single defines the group’s “sound, personality, and the way [they] present [themselves].” “We have always been known for being vocal, but this time it is even stronger. We are addressing sensitive and current topics that people can relate to, even if not everyone agrees with us. We are ready to face any reaction. This release is very powerful and a strong way to start the year and introduce this new era,” he added.
The quintet is gearing up for the release of their album “Wakas at Simula” on March 27 and is set to hold the concert of the same name on April 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds.
