San Miguel falls to Taoyuan Pilots in EASL as tempers flare late

November 14 ------ SAN Miguel dropped another loss in the East Asia Super League 2024-25 season after being outclassed by the Taoyuan Pilots, 101-85, at the Philsports Arena. The reigning PBA Commissioner’s Cup champion Beermen dropped their second straight defeat in as many games after being outscored, 28-13, in the second quarter. Quincy Miller had 32 points for the Beermen but found little support in the game where tensions ran high in the 6:32-mark of the fourth after an altercation between Jericho Cruz and Taoyuan import Alec Brown. Cruz was later ejected in the game after being called for a disqualifying foul.

The Beermen were playing their first game since being ousted by Barangay Ginebra in Game Six of the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup semifinals. “We are disappointed with the two outcomes that we had,” said SMB assistant coach Peter Martin. “We thought we had a better chance tonight but apparently, we felt short again. We are having a hard time adjusting to the international ball, but Quincy showed up tonight.”

Don Trollano had 13 points, but San Miguel’s Governors’ Cup import EJ Anosike only had eight points. Beermen stars CJ Perez and June Mar Fajardo combined for only 13 points, although Fajardo, the eight-time PBA MVP, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Brown had 25 points to lead the Taiwanese ballclub, who now has a 2-0 win-loss record in Group A. Treveon Graham added 25 points and seven assists, while Lu Chun-Hsiang had 25 points for the Pilots.
