MANILA, Philippines, October 7 ------ Ryle Santiago is one of the established and familiar faces in the TV5 entertainment and music countdown program, “Vibe.” He banks on his previous hosting stints to help viewers navigate the show’s varied segments, such as “Main Vibe,” “Uprising,” and “OG Experience.”
It’s a challenge to present a show and engage viewers at home or wherever they may be. His natural interest, encompassing knowledge, in music also comes in handy. “Perhaps for ‘Main Vibe,’ what I really like about it is that we’re celebrating the now because the concept of ‘Vibe’ is (about) the past, present, and future,” said Ryle in an exclusive virtual interview with this paper. “We’re celebrating the present. Sino ba ang tinatangkilik ng tao right now (who are the artists people are currently listening to these days?), who do we like at the moment? So, whenever there’s a guest for ‘Main Vibe,’ it’s always something fresh because it’s what’s new.”
Before he became comfortable with hosting or reached being in the zone, so to speak, Ryle had his own humble beginnings and training. “For me, all of the hosting gigs that I’ve done throughout my career really led me to this,” he said. “The very first time that I hosted was for ‘ASAP Chillout.’ It was a one-time thing.” That happened 11 years ago when fellow Hashtags member and “Vibe” jock Paulo Angeles was invited to grace the segment and asked Ryle to co-host it with him. Then, after, he was assigned to be part of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan online” where Ryle and other hosts got to interview singers who came from different walks of life and to know different music genres, tastes, and personalities.
As a “Vibe” jock, Ryle has the chance to share tips about hosting to the Gen V, the younger set of hosts in the show. “Masarap sa feeling na nakakatulong ako (it’s a great feeling that I’m able to help),” said the Kapatid artist, who had his first lead role in the TV5 show “#ParangNormal Activity.”
Asked how the “Vibe” hosting gig landed in his lap, Ryle said, “Actually, it was not offered to me. I offered myself to the program (laughs). I was not considered initially because I already had a show, meron akong ‘Face to Face (Harapan).’ Initially, ‘di na ‘ko kinonsider sa ‘Vibe.’” But he wanted to be part of it since he knows the “Vibe” jocks, who are his friends. And eventually, his wish was granted.
