Richard Gutierrez says actions scenes in ‘The Iron Heart’ at par with international standards

February 16 ------ As Apollo Adelantar, a guy who’s out to revenge his father’s death in “The Iron Heart,” Richard Gutierrez goes through a slew of action scenes, and thanks to his introduction to martial arts when he was a kid, the process helped him tide over rigorous fight scenes.

“I’ve been doing martial arts since bata pa ako. Since six or seven ay nagsimula na akong mag-martials arts. Isa ‘yun sa constant sa buhay ko na hindi nawawala, like iyon ang consistent training ko. Talagang may passion ako about martial arts. Masaya ako na naipapakita ko iyon dito sa “The Iron Heart,” he said during our recent set visit in the series’ location in Cebu.

Action scenes, Gutierrez observed, has reached the level of international standard. “At this point kasi ay napapanood na natin ‘yung mga international TV, international movies so kahit paano ay gusto nating i-elevate ang action scenes in the Philippines and try to make it as good or at par sa mga international action scenes kasi kaya naman natin. Kaya naman ng mga Pilipino na gumawa ng action series with the right people and the right team. And that’s what we’re trying to do here,” he said.

For Gutierrez, the most important thing to observe while doing action scenes is “safety.” “Bruises, normal ‘yan sa akin. Mga gasgas, sugat, normal lang sa amin. But thankfully wala pa kaming injuries. We don’t have major accidents. Siyempre, inuuna naming ang safety pa rin. Ako, alam ko kung ano ang safe, kung ano ang hindi. Kagaya ng team ko, pinag-uusapan namin kung ano ang stunt, but of course, safety is the highest priority,” he explained.

The action scenes in “The Iron Heart” are directed by Lester Pimentel Ong and the dramatic parts by Richard Ibasco Arellano.
