MANILA, Philippines, January 16 ------ Three weather systems will continue to affect the Philippines on Thursday, bringing warm, humid weather to some areas and isolated rains and thunderstorms to others, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its early forecast. The Visayas and Mindanao will experience warm and humid weather due to the easterlies, Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon will have isolated rains while the Bicol Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms caused by a shear line, according to weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez.
At the same time, Dominguez said no tropical cyclones or low pressure areas were monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The easterlies are the winds coming from the east and passing through the Pacific Ocean that carry warm and humid weather; the isolated rains are caused by the northeast monsoon or "amihan," a combination of cold, dry air and strong northeasterly winds that blow from the east; and the shear line is the convergence of hot and cold air. The rest of the country, meanwhile, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, according to Pagasa.
