QC, Manila suspend classes Monday for SONA

MANILA, July 25 ------ The Quezon City government has suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools on Monday, July 27, for the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This aims to allow residents to listen to Marcos’ SONA and avoid getting stuck in heavy traffic.

The city government also imposed a liquor ban on Monday from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. to ensure peace and security during the president’s annual address. The Philippine National Police earlier said it was deploying 24,000 police officers to maintain security during the SONA.

The City of Manila also suspended face-to-face and online classes in all levels, public and private, for Monday. The suspension would allow students and teachers to tune in to the president’s SONA, the announcement added. Several groups have announced plans to stage protest actions, with thousands expected to gather along Commonwealth Avenue.
