MANILA, Philippines, October 7 ------ The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) launched an app to give Filipino athletes a platform to showcase their progress and connect to scouts. Powered by US technology company Elite Link, the app with the same name will serve as a database for athletes, coaches, scouts, teams, and brands across the country.
According to PSC Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio, the hope is to discover the next generation of Olympians in the country. “Basketball and volleyball are the best at scouting talents, but how about other sports?” Gregorio said during the app’s launch on Monday, October 6, at the Solaire Resort. “This will give them the platform to show what they can do. It gives a chance to chase their dream of being an athlete. Perhaps, we can also find our next Olympian,” he added.
The database will allow athletes to create and build a personal profile where they can showcase their information, statistics, performances, and achievements. Athletes and non-athletes, regardless of country, can register in the app. Scouts, coaches, and brands are also encouraged to join the database.
Batang Pinoy athletes will be using the app ahead of their national meet in General Santos City from October 25 to 30. The app is also expected to be used by national athletes who will compete in the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December.
Through the platform, the National Academy of Sports can identify athletes for its athletic scholarships as well. “This is not for the PSC. This is for the young athletes, and the Philippine sports programs, and the national schools and universities. We are giving our young athletes a chance to introduce themselves,” Gregorio said.
The app is available via the App Store and Google Play.
