Pregnant, breastfeeding mothers to be included in 4Ps soon

MANILA, June 16 ------ Pregnant and lactating mothers of babies up to two years old will soon be part of the expanded Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the proposed amendments on 4Ps held during a sectoral meeting in the Palace. Guidelines on the grant's amount and beneficiaries are still being ironed out by Department of Social Welfare and Development and the National Economic and Development Authority. "Magkakaroon ng separate conditions for them and then there's a separate cash grant under compliance with the conditions. Nirerecognize kasi ng program at government na very critical ang first 1000 days," said DSWD Spokesperson Asec. Irene Dumlao.

Under the current scheme, 4Ps beneficiaries are limited to families with children attending school. Household beneficiaries of 4Ps with elementary students receive P300 per child per month for 10 months; P500 per child per month for 10 months for junior high school; and P700 per child per month for 10 months for senior high school. They also get P750 per month for 12 months provided that their children aged two to 14 years old undergo a growth development and monitoring program and deworming.

Asked if pregnant women outside the program are qualified, Dumlao said implementing guidelines have yet to be finalized. "In terms of beneficiaries, dapat identified or included sa Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction," Dumlao said. "At the part of the DSWD, of course, nilalayon natin na ma-implement agad ito this will be of benefit ng ating mga beneficiaries," Dumlao added.
