Pork, rice prices up

May 3 ----- THE average retail prices of pork increased in April, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said.

The cost of pork with bones went up by P3 to P25 per kilo, as observed in eight trading centers during the April 15 to 17 period. However, the average retail price of pork declined by P10 in Cebu City and Butuan City in the same period.

The prices of rice also went up in four trading centers by P0.11 to P2.90 per kilo. However, prices went down by P0.05 in Legazpi City and by P3.25 in Tuguegarao City during the period. Based on the price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture (DA), the prices of well-milled rice ranged from P40 to P46 per kilo, pork kasim went up to P365 from P310 per kilo, while the cost of pork liempo ranged from P350 to P420 per kilo as of April 29, 2023.

The prices of onions also increased in four trading centers by P10 to P24 per kilo, while five trading centers reported a decrease by P7.50 to P10 per kilo. As of April 29, a kilo of red onions cost P140 to P180, while a kilo of white onions could be bought for P150 to P200 in the National Capital Region.

The retail prices of calamansi also increased by P2.50 to P20 per kilo in seven trading centers during the period April 15 to 17. The average retail price of the product went down by P2 in NCR and by P14.50 in Baguio City during the period. The cost of galunggong (round scad) decreased by P4.57 to P35 per kilo in seven trading centers but it went up P5 in Digos City, P10 in Legazpi City, P20 in Cabanatuan City and P25.00 in Tuguegarao City.

The price of brown sugar slightly decreased by P0.19 to P3 per kilo in four trading centers. On the other hand, its average retail price per kilogram climbed by P0.26 in Tuguegarao City. The DA's price monitoring showed that a kilo of brown sugar ranged from P78 to P95.
