MANILA, Philippines, May 9 ------ The retail price of pork has reached as high as P480 per kilo despite the implementation of maximum suggested retail price (SRP) for pork products. At a press conference, Department of Agriculture deputy spokesperson Joycel Panlilio said the DA will look into the failure of the markets to comply with the maximum SRP imposed on March 10.
Based on monitoring of the DA in Metro Manila markets, the retail price of pork shoulder is between P350 per kilo and P420 per kilo; and pork belly, between P370 and P480 per kilo. The max SRP for pork shoulder was set at P350 per kilo and pork belly, P380 per kilo.
Compliance with the max SRP for pork products went down to less than five percent of the total 183 stalls in Metro Manila as of May 2, compared to 30 percent recorded on April 1, data showed.
