September 8 ------ The Philippine Embassy in Oman recently issued an advisory warning Filipinos of a Facebook and Messenger account using its name.
The embassy posted on its official Facebook page screenshots of messages sent from the fake account. The messages showed that a cash reward is promised to netizens for their support. Netizens will be given a link where they are supposed to enter their personal information so the alleged prize can be processed. "The public is hereby advised of a circulating scam from a Facebook/Messenger account pretending to be the Philippine Embassy in Oman," the advisory read. "Please do not provide any personal information and ignore messages received from the said fraudulent account," the embassy added. "The Embassy does not use Messenger in disseminating information," it said.
Information and other updates are posted on the embassy's official website (muscatpe.dfa.gov.ph) and official Facebook page (www.facebook/com/PHLinOman), the embassy said. Those receiving messages from the fraudulent account are advised to contact the embassy via email at muscat.pe@dfa.gov.ph or via landline at +968 2460-5335 or +968 2460-5176. "The public is hereby enjoined to exercise caution and prudence especially when interacting online," the embassy said.
