July 4 ------ A Filipino documentary has emerged victorious at the 2025 Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand. "Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea," directed by Baby Ruth Villarama under Voyage Studios, bagged the Tides of Change Award under the Best Festival Category in the Academy Award-qualifying film festival, marking a significant win for the country.
In a Facebook post, Voyage Studios said: "This is for every Filipino defending the West Philippine Sea. In the face of silence and fear, we carry the truth and now the world hears us." "The journey has just begun. May more people see our fight," it added. "Food Delivery," which tackles the maritime conflict between the Philippines and China, had its world premiere last June 30 in Auckland as part of the Doc Edge Festival.
Villarama, best known for directing "Sunday Beauty Queen," earlier shared why the documentary is a must-see. "The West Philippine Sea seems too far from us people in the mainland. But I hope that by seeing the film, they can finally understand kung gaano kahalaga kung ano 'yung mayroon tayo. So I hope we can protect it, pangalagaan natin bago siya mawala sa atin nang tuluyan. Kailangan ilaban mo 'yan," she stressed.
