May 14 ------ THE Philippines churned promising results in the recently-concluded 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships by capturing seven silver medals in the event held in Jiangshan, China. Paris Olympian Elreen Ando captured the silvers in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the women’s 64kg division, while Rosegie Ramos also bagged the silvers in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the women’s 49kg division.

Fernando Agad Jr. clinched a silver in the clean and jerk in the men’s 55kg division. Competing in the heavier division than in the Paris Games where she competed in the 59kg, Ando flourished with lifts of 102 kilograms in the snatch, 130 in the clean and jerk, for a 232 total to finish second behind China’s Li Shuang, who swept the gold in the three events (105 in snatch, 134 in clean and jerk, 239 in total). Ramos, 21, was second in the snatch with a 90, and clean and jerk with a 107, for a total of 197 to claim the silver behind Thailand’s Sukcharoen Thanyathon (91, 109, 197). Agad was at No. 2 in the clean and jerk with a lift of 141, although he missed the podium in the other events with a fourth-place finish in the snatch (113) and total (254).
