Pinay confirmed dead in Hong Kong fire

MANILA, Philippines, December 1 ------ A Filipina died in the devastating fire that engulfed multiple high-rise buildings in Tai Po last week, the Philippine consulate general in Hong Kong confirmed.
The consulate said overseas Filipino worker Maryann Pascual Esteban, who was earlier reported missing, died in the conflagration. “With great sadness, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong confirms the passing of Ms. Maryann Pascual Esteban, an overseas Filipino worker who had earlier been reported missing due to the Tai Po fire tragedy,” the consulate said in a Facebook post. “Far from her native home, she had made innumerable sacrifices to provide a better life for her family. She leaves behind a ten-year old son and her family in Cainta, Rizal,” it said.
As of Friday, the deadliest fire in Hong Kong that engulfed the Wang Fuk Court residential complex has claimed 128 lives, with 150 still missing after the disaster. According to the consulate, 84 Filipinos are confirmed safe and accounted for, one injured, and seven left for verification. The consulate is continuing its on-the-ground operations to assist and check the welfare of OFWs affected by the Tai Po fire incident.
