MANILA, March 16 ------ The Kanlaon Volcano has once again erupted, marking its third recorded eruption this year, according to Phivolcs.
The eruption was described as "moderately explosive," and lasted for about a minute. The height of its plume reached 5,000 meters, Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said in DZMM TeleRadyo's Story Outlook. "In a span of one month, pangatlo na ito but ineexpect natin itong ganitong klaseng activities sa Alert Level 2 status ng Kanlaon Volcano," Bacolcol said.
Kanlaon Volcano's first eruption was last February 19, followed by another eruption last February 26. According to the official, the eruption may be similar to the two previous event wherein gas trapped in volcano experienced an over pressurization which resulted in the violent explosion. Bacolcol, however, clarified that they are not yet elevating the Alert Level of Kanlaon Volcano and said they are still monitoring it to determine if elevating the Alert Level is necessary. He also warned the public not to go inside the designated "danger zones" to avoid any injury the volcano may cause, and to avoid panicking in such situations.
