MANILA, Philippines, January 17 ------ The country’s population is expected to reach 123.96 million by 2035, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This means around 14.76 million people are projected to be added to the 2020 population of 109.20 million.

An average annual population growth rate of 0.85 percent for the period of 2020 to 2035 is assumed by the projection. By 2035, the PSA said the male population is expected to reach around 62.64 million, or 50.5 percent of the total, while women will account for about 61.32 million, or 49.5 percent. “The Calabarzon region is projected to remain the most populous region in 2035, with an estimated population of 19.07 million,” the PSA said.

This will be followed by the National Capital Region and Central Luzon, with projected populations of 14.49 million and 14.02 million, respectively. The Cordillera Administrative Region is expected to have the smallest population in 2035, with a projected population of 2.13 million. By 2030, the PSA said Cavite is projected to remain as the most populous province at 5.30 million.

Bulacan is expected to rank second with a population of 4.17 million, followed by Rizal with 3.88 million. For highly urbanized cities, the PSA said Quezon City is projected to remain the largest in 2030, with a population of 2.92 million. This will be followed by Davao City, which is expected to have a population of 2.04 million by 2030. Manila is expected to place third with a population of 1.90 million by 2030.
