Philippine lifters snare 3 more golds in Albania

MANILA, Philippines, March 28 ------ The Philippines’ Albert Ian delos Santos and Angeline Colonia added three more gold medals to the country’s massive haul with impressive performances in the International Weightlifting Federation World Youth Championships in Duress, Albania yesterday.

Delos Santos delivered two mints in the men’s 61kg division total with a lift of 259kg, and clean and jerk with 149kg. He had a fifth-best 110kg in the snatch.

The 17-year-old Colonia, younger sister of Olympian Nestor Colonia, copped the gold in the women’s 45kg snatch with 72kg but had a fourth-best 83kg in clean and jerk. She took the silver in total with a 155kg. It proved to be a heartbreaker as she missed the gold that went to Turkmenistan’s Ogukshat Amanova, who had a 156kg.

The latest harvest hiked the Filipinos’ golden collection to six after Prince Kel delos Santos snared two and Eron Borres captured one in the -49kg category the other day. Rosalinda Faustino will try to add more to the country’s haul as she is scheduled to see action next.

“These are the future of Philippine weightlifting,” said Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) president Monico Puentevella, who thanked the PSC, MVP Sports Foundation and SM for supporting the campaign.
