Philippine COVID-19 cases top 407,000 as new recoveries hit 11,290

November 16 ------ The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally rose to 407,838 on Sunday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 1,530 new infections. The areas with the highest number of newly reported cases were Cavite with 90, Rizal with 84, Manila City with 79, Davao City with 78, and Taguig City with 73. Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 374,329 after 11,290 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The DOH reports time-based recoveries every Sunday as part of its “Oplan Recovery” initiative, where asymptomatic and mild cases are re-tagged as recovered after completing a 14-days quarantine without developing symptoms. The death toll also climbed to 7,832 with 41 new fatalities. The remaining 25,677 are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 82.5 percent of which are mild, 8.4 percent are asymptomatic, 3.2 percent are severe, and 5.6 percent are in critical condition. Worldwide, COVID-19 has claimed over 1.29 million lives and infected more than 52.77 million people.
